2011: A Reflection

Last year on my tumblr I made two lists. One was the good bits of 2010 and the other was the bad. Despite my adamant belief that 2010 was horrible in every way imaginable, I found that by writing all the major (and some minor) good and bad events from the year down that 2010 actually wasn't as bad as I thought. So I'm doing it again this year.

The Bad Bits of 2011

  • Struggling with depression.
  • Seeing the true colors of someone I thought was a friend.
  • Having quite a few weekends run by Murphy's Law
  • The water pipe busting in my residence hall, and having to move into a hotel for the last part of the semester
  • Having numerous problems with the washers/dryers at Juniper/hotel.
  • Freaking out because the right side of my face stopped working.
  • Having steroids to take care of the Bell's palsy (face paralysis above) that made me beyond sick the week before finals.
The Good Bits of 2011
  • Leaving the country for the first time in my life.
  • Getting my acceptance letter to Southern Utah University!
  • Mormon Prom.
  • Graduating from Parkersburg High School.
  • Working on a Habitat for Humanity House.
  • Flying in a plane for the first time.
  • Meeting amazing people who quickly became amazing friends.
  • Actually being in the Conference Center for General Conference.
  • Late nights spent talking and goofing off.
  • Late night Maverick or Denny's runs.
  • Bringing extra mattresses into one of the rooms and having a sleepover before we moved.
  • Buying tiki torches and traversing a tunnel.
  • Pulling an all nighter.
  • Playing the longest game of Phase Ten and then Game of Things in a bedroom we were never supposed to have access to.
  • Doing the most awesome photo shoot in the Asylum.
  • Losing TWENTY pounds since summer!
  • Christmas with my family.
  • Ringing in the New Year with my Momma.
Yep, definitely another year of blessings.  Here's to another amazing year!  2012, you shall be epic!
Love, Chelsea

Sleep? What is this thing you call sleep?

I am officially becoming one of those stereotypical college kids where sleep is concerned.  I would sleep all day if it was possible and stay up all night if I could.  There's just a few problems with this.

  1. I am a night owl.  It starts getting dark and I get a ton of energy.  Last night it was 1 am and I wanted to go for a walk or write a story or do something, but walking that late alone is not safe and I doubt my roommate would enjoy the gentle glow and the clicking of keys coming from my laptop.
  2. I have classes.
  3. One of said classes starts at 8:30 am.
  4. Everyone else I know goes to bed at a decent hour except for one guy, but he watches scary movies most of the time.  (Scary Movies + Me = A Not Good Combination)
I talk about going to bed early, but it never happens.  And if I do manage to get to bed "early" (1 am is early, right?), I just stare at the ceiling as thoughts chase themselves around my head.  And before I know it, only a few minutes have passed even though it feels like hours.  This is fine once in a while, but Every. Single. Night. is a bit ridiculous.
Maybe I should just pull an all nighter one day and things would go back to normal.  Or it would just result in my sleeping being even more screwed up, but hey, a girl can dream.  Or ya know, maybe not if she can't sleep in the first place.

The Obligatory Introduction

I felt like I had to make this blog.  I was following so many different blogs, but I would forget to check them and it was just a mess, *deep breathe* SO here I am!
Here are a few things I think it is important to know about me.

  •   First, my name is Chelsea.  I know that the first rule of the internet when we were younger was "Do NOT, under ANY circumstances, give ANYONE your name!  EVER!", but I have since broken that rule about a bajillion times so its all good (I hope!).
  • Secondly, I was raised in a place called Parkersburg, West Virginia.  No, one leg is not longer than the other and no I don't talk like a hick or like to go muddin' on the weekends either.  And yes, we are a state, so stop trying to tell me I'm from Western Virginia.
  • About two months ago (give or take a week), I moved to this lovely little town of Cedar City to go to Southern Utah University where I am majoring in Creative Writing and minoring in Photography, but all that is subject to change.
  • I don't think I'm abnormally narcissistic (I believe everyone is to some degree).  I just thought it was a cool title for a blog.
That's about all you need to know.  Everything else will be told in due time.
